BHHS Forensics Team Scores at the Novice State Championships and Walled Lake Tournaments

Saturday, March 14, 2026, 47 members of the BHHS Forensics Team competed at the Michigan Speech Coaches Incorporated Novice State Championship and Open Invitational at Novi High School. There were over 650 students competing from 38 schools. The Black Hawk team excelled in individual performances and won first place in the Novice division. The following students received individual awards in their categories of competition (*denotes 2026 Team Captain):

Novice State Championship (1st year students):

1st place – Nayla Gorelkin (grade 9) – Dramatic Interpretation
1st place – Stephen LaBond (grade 9) – Prose Interpretation
1st place – Carter Phillips (grade 9) – Program Oral Interpretation 

2nd place – Gianna Ammori (grade 9) – Informative Speaking
2nd place – Honor Hutchison (grade 11) – Dramatic Interpretation
2nd place – Rynah Mehta (grade 9) – Prose Interpretation 

3rd place – Preeyo Randhawa (grade 9) – Sales Presentation 

4th place – Sophie Galizia-Korniusza (grade 9) – Children’s Storytelling 

5th place – Autumn Bair (grade 10) – Poetry Interpretation
5th place – Andrew Cholakian (grade 11) – Media Broadcasting


6th place – Lila Leung (grade 10) – Program Oral Interpretation

Open Invitational (non-Novices):

1st place – Zeena Jandali (grade 11) & Katie Tadesse (grade 12) – Duo Commentary

3rd place – Izzy Rothschild (grade 10) – Informative Speaking

5th place – *Saffiyah Walji (grade 12) – Sales Presentation

Saturday, March 21, 2026, 37 members of the BHHS Forensics Team competed at the Warrior Invitational at Walled Lake Western High School with 500 students from 28 schools. The Black Hawks excelled in individual performances and won third place overall.  The following students received individual awards in their categories of competition (*denotes 2026 Team Captain):

4th place – Jared She (grade 11) – Original Oratory

5th place – Max Ganezer (grade 11), Addison Grundner (grade 10), Carson Miller (grade 12), Lily Novetsky (grade 11), Christian Salgado (grade 12) – Multiple
