BHHS Students Achieve Artistic Excellence and Technical Mastery at Annual Thespy’s Event

In mid-December, Bloomfield Hills High School theater students traveled to Lansing, MI to participate in the annual Michigan Educational Theater Association Festival, where they showcased their exceptional talent and dedication to the performing arts.

The festival brought together theater students from across the state to compete, perform, and celebrate excellence in theater production and performance. BHHS students earned top honors and recognition in multiple categories, highlighting the strength of the school’s theater program.

During the weekend, students watched performances, participated in workshops led by professionals and professors in the industry, met and networked with 98 different theater troupes from across Michigan, and cheered each other on throughout the event.

Klara Deinlein (grade 12) and Sam Lotzoff (grade 12) received multiple scholarships from various universities for their outstanding work in sound and lighting design. In addition, Deinlein earned the prestigious, “Thespian Scholarship” the highest honor awarded to theater students in Michigan. Recognized as one of the top five theater technicians in the state, Deinlein can apply the scholarship to the university of her choice.

Selected as a “Showcase Performer,” Aamina Chammout (grade 12), performed before an audience of more than 2,000 people, and earned a dance scholarship to Central Michigan University: a testament to her skill and stage presence.

The following students received “Superior” ratings: Christian Salgado (grade 12) for Musical Theater, Gisela Pagel (grade 12) for Costume Design, Lotzoff for Sound Design, and Chammout for Choreography. “Excellent” ratings went to Honor Hutchison (grade 11) for Acting and to Salgado and Carson Miller (grade 12) for Musical Theater Performance.

Thank you to theater directors Mary Bogrette and Marty Yaple, for continuing to foster creativity, collaboration, and professional-level artistry among BHHS theater students, preparing them for success in college and beyond. Congratulations to all BHHS theater students on their outstanding achievements!
