Debate Team Concludes Inaugural Season

The BHHS Debate program concluded their inaugural season by competing at the MIFA Novice Public Forum Debate State Finals tournament for 14+ hours this past Saturday, December 13, at Wayne State University. With 54 teams in attendance from 18 different high schools, BHHS Debaters finished their season with high honors.

Preliminary Seeding:

4th – Daniel Cali (grade 10) / Zuheir Sibai (grade 10)
2nd – Holiday Lucai-Sample (grade 11) / Priyanca Skilton (grade 11)
1st – Hudson Panozzo (grade 9) / Mihir Shah (grade 10)

Only one 2-person team from each school can advance to the elimination rounds and programs choose which students to send to each elimination level of competition. The team of Sibai/Shah won the quarterfinal match, while the team of Panozzo/Shah represented BHHS in the semifinal round, but were ultimately defeated by the eventual State Champion team from West Bloomfield.

With over 100  individual competitors in our division, BHHS received five of the 20 Individual Speaker Awards:

19th – Gia Walvekar (grade 10)
10th – Holiday Lucai-Sample
5th – Hudson Panozzo
4th – Mihir Shah
2nd – Priyanca Skilton
