December Athletics Highlights
  • The BHHS Boys and Girls Black Hawk Bowling teams started the season on a high note! The team competed in four dual matches and participated in the OAA singles preseason tournament. A youthful group of bowlers have brought energy and new life to this program. The future looks bright for the Black Hawks!

 

  • The BHHS ESports “Splatoon” team won the Michigan High School Esports League State Finals! The team has secured their spot in the Esports Nationals where they will compete for scholarship money. Splatoon team members are: Jake Desmon (grade 12), Patrick Fritz (grade 12), Derek Johnston (grade 11), Angelica Johnson (grade 9), Logan Witherspoon (grade 11), Anna Pniewski (grade 11), and Riley Forrester (grade 11). 

 

  • The BHHS ESports “Hearthstone” team of Nicholas Clark (grade 10), Myron Hubert (grade 10), and Jacob Kalusniak (grade 12) finished second in the North American Eastern Division, earning the team a bid to the National Esports Hearthstone Finals in 2025 where they will compete for college scholarships.

 

  • The BHHS Esports “Mario Kart” team competed in the finals for the second straight time. Congratulations to the following BHHS Esports players who received All-State recognition at the Michigan State Finals: Jake Desmon, “Splatoon 3,” Canon Lucai-Sample (grade 12), “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,"  and Derek Johnston, “Overwatch 2.”

 

  • The BHHS Boys Hockey team had a great start in December going 3-1 taking their record to 6-2 for the season. The December wins were all against divisional teams, the most impressive being a 2-0 win vs Rochester United. Rocco Colosimo (grade 11) was the MVP of the Rochester game with 30 saves earning his first shutout of the season. Team points leader, Preston Lumberg (grade 12), scored an amazing rebound goal from Dominik Dostal (grade 12), and Captain Jordan Newman (grade 12) capped off the game scoring an empty net goal with seconds left to secure the win. This win was a complete team win and they are excited to keep working hard.

 

  • The BHHS Girls Hockey team is off to a great start. Despite a front loaded schedule against top competition, they are tied for first place in their division. Leading the way are the captains - Birdie Parker (grade 12) with a league leading 192 saves, Lily Ehmann  (grade 12) playing lockdown defense, in addition to four goals and five assists, and Alia Somero (grade 12) with 14 goals and seven assists. Also off to a hot start is Natalia Ben-Ezra (grade 9) with eight goals and four assists. 

 

  • The BHHS Boys Swim and Dive teams are just getting their season started. The Black Hawks have their first dual meet this week against Clarkston. BHHS welcomes new swim head coach, Jerome Wiater, and assistant coach Luis Orellana. Coach Scott McHugh is back coaching the divers.

 

  • The BHHS Varsity A Wrestling team is 7 - 0 this year, and the team took first place in the Groves Super Dual Team Tournament. Kanata Richardson (grade 11) took third place at the Brighton Girls Invitational. BHHS tied a school record by placing third in the two-day Oakland County Championship tournament. Seven athletes earned all county honors, and BHHS beat some state ranked teams to place so high. The coaches are very proud of the team!
    • Second place: Anthony Najjar (grade 12), Arber Dembogaj Beyer (grade 12) 
    • Third place: Ben Guettler (grade 12) 
    • Fourth place: Chase Roumayah (grade 12), Jaxon Foote (grade 11) 
    • Sixth place: Noah Moss (grade 9)
    • Seventh place: Alex Rabban (grade 12)

 

  • The BHHS JV Wrestling team wrestled at the Groves JV Invite with a lot of successes. The following wrestlers placed in their weight class:
    • First place: Constantin Trantow (grade 9), Eliott Blatt (grade 10), Chase Denha (grade 11), Jared Barnett (grade 10),  Aiden Scholl (grade 11), Jonny Bahu (grade 10), Vaughn Mowat  (grade 10)
    • Second place: Shuaib Hasan (grade 12), Ameer Al-Saghir (grade 9)
    • Third place: Noah Moss, Fallou Cisse (grade 11) 
    • Fourth place: Dillon Jamil (grade 10)

 

  • The BHHS JV Wrestling team also traveled to the Yale JV Tournament.  The following wrestlers placed in their weight class:
    • First place: Eliott Blatt, Chase Denha, Ben Modiano (grade 9), Vaughn Mowat
    • Second place: Anthony Orlewicz (grade 9), Fallou Cisse (grade 11)
    • Third place: Noam Ellis (grade 10)
    • Fourth place: Constantin Trantow
