February 2026 Athletic Highlights

Basketball

The Boys Varsity Basketball Team continues to improve! The team currently stands at 19 - 2 with a perfect 10 - 0 league record, securing the OAA Blue League Championship! Some stand out performances include:

  • Brennan Bies, Wing (grade 12) - 15 points and 8 rebounds against Troy.
  • Carter Canfield (grade 11) - 14 points and 2 steals against Seaholm.
  • Carter Hartfield, Guard (grade 11) - 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists against Royal Oak.
  • Mason Hitchcock, Wing (grade 11) - 10 points against Seaholm.
  • Ryan Hunt, Guard (grade 12) - 8 points and 2 big three point shots against Pontiac.
  • Da’ron Mason, Guard (grade 12) - 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 assists against Troy.
  • Meyer Saperstein, Guard (grade 12) - 11 points, 4 assists and 4 steals against Kettering.

The Freshman Boys team had a record of 3 - 3 in the month of February. Their season came to an end on February 16, finishing the season with a 10 - 9 record. The coach commented that the boys improved each and every game.

The Unified Basketball team continues to celebrate every basket as they spread the love for basketball and demonstrate what inclusion looks like when we break down barriers and level the playing field. Coach Amy Scott emphasized, “Thank you for the support and the love that the BH community gives us!”

Boys Swim and Dive

Black Hawk swimmers and divers achieved another great and undefeated month. The league meet is being held this week with prelims on Wednesday, February 25, and finals on Friday, February 27. This will be followed by the state meet March 13 and 14 at Oakland University.  The state team currently consists of grade 12 student and captain Charlie Antone, and grade 11 students Seif Elbaradey, Victor Malinski, and Miles Marx.

The team had a fantastic Oakland County meet, finishing 5th out of 29 teams with a total of 179 points! The county team was led by top 16 overall scorers: swimmers Charlie Antone, Francis Baker (grade 10), Jack Conroy (grade 11), Steven Dronzkowski (grade 10), Seif Elbaradey, Victor Malinski, Miles Marx, and diver Nil Hellin-Lopez (grade 9).

The month was capped off by an exciting 2 point victory (94 - 92) over rival Rochester Stoney-Creek on senior night. The meet came down to the last event, the 400 free relay when the quartet of Antone, Elbaradey, Malinski, and Marx not only scored the decisive victory, but set a new pool record at 3:14.49!

Wrestling

Kanata Richardson (grade 12) won the Regional Championship and will defend her state title in the upcoming State Championship at Ford Field.
