IB Art Exhibition

IB Art Exhibition

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, BHHS celebrated two talented students after two years of hard work and dedication during the International Baccalaureate Art Exhibition. Viktoria Adam and Lillian Bujoll stood proudly by displays of their art while family and faculty learned about their inspirations and processes for completing their portfolios of work.

Art teacher Tessa Basirco spent a great deal of time with both artists over the last two years. Basirco said, “I had to do very little in the area of motivating them to do the work. They both work super independently. They both have an abundance of ideas, and ways to realize their ideas.” IB Coordinator Amy Merchant commented that students must possess dedication and passion for art to become successful IB art candidates. In addition to creating several art pieces using different media, the IB program requires a great deal of writing. Merchant emphasized, “[Students] have to research and explain the connections to existing art and make comparisons with artists who have influenced them in their style.”

Viktoria Adam discussed her displayed work, “The theme is to portray original characters; they are all women in this late 1960s rock band called ‘Spellbound,’ and it is called ‘Spellbound’ because they're all magical in some sort of way. It basically plays in a reality like our own, except magic and magical creatures exist. So, for example, the guitarist is a witch and the lead singer is a mermaid.” Adam’s pieces reflect the characters both in cartoon-like and realistic scenes. Adam worked with different materials to create objects that enhance the fictitious band’s story. On display are a band t-shirt, a fake magazine cover, and an actual, vinyl hand painted record cover. Adam found working with different media to be a good challenge, specifically, creating a full stage scene out of cardboard, using iron-on paper, and painting in acrylic. Adam's future plans include studying psychology while continuing to explore art at a university in Europe.

Lillian Bujoll plans to attend the University of Toronto to study psychology and is considering combining art and psychology through art therapy or teaching and remarked, “I think everyone communicates when they make art…, and recently, I have been struggling to contain the way I feel about things going on in the world. Over the past two years, this has been practically my only outlet for that frustration.” Bujoll further explained, “My pieces contain themes like psychological terms, such as 'us versus them', or 'them versus us.'” Bujoll discovered a love for screen printing and collage-making during the process of creating the IB portfolio.
