Unified Basketball

The BHS Unified team is off to a great start!  They opened their season at Avondale and played against Lamphere and a Detroit Public School team. They’ve also played Berkley, Clarkston, and Walled Lake Central. The athletes were excited to travel to Divine Child to introduce unified basketball to the students in their brand new ARP program.

Although every basket brings a smile to the team and fans, there was one shot that stands out made by Monte Paulateer (PREP). The team was playing Berkley and down by 2 when Paulateer inbounded the ball and took a shot from the other team’s free throw line. It traveled 3/4 of the court for a buzzer beating swish!

Boys and Girls Bowling

The boys and girls bowling teams have been busy during the month of January! The highlight of this month was attending the Oakland County Tournament at Astro Lanes for the boys and Century Bowl for the girls. Black Hawks continue to focus on the team and to advance their bowling knowledge and skill. They aim to finish the season strong with the OAA Postseason Tournament and Regionals, which both take place in February.

Dance Team

The dance teams officially wrapped up their regional competition season last weekend, and what an incredible run it was! The varsity team delivered strong performances all season long, earning the following placements:

• Competition 1: 3rd place pom | 6th place jazz

• Competition 2: 9th place pom | 6th place jazz

• Competition 3: 8th place pom | 4th place jazz

In addition to their competitive success, Varsity was also invited to perform at the College Dance Team Nationals Showcase, hosted by the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Ohio State University dance teams. This is an incredible honor and opportunity!

Our JV Dance Team showed tremendous growth and consistency with their pom routine, earning:

• Competition 1: 4th place

• Competition 2: 3rd place

• Competition 3: 3rd place

For the first time ever, both teams will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete at the National Dance Team Championship! The coaches are so proud of these dancers and their hard work, dedication, and determination.

The last session of the Bloomfield Hills Middle School Dance Team Prep Program runs from Tuesday, February 17 to Thursday, March 31! Classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Way Elementary. This is an excellent opportunity for younger dancers to learn more about the dance team style while building a strong technical foundation. Please sign up to attend!

Boys Hockey

Lakes Area United (combined team with BHHS) has a record of 6 - 3 so far in January.  The boys are coming off a huge weekend in Chelsea, sweeping the two game showcase, with wins vs Anchor Bay and L'Anse Creuse United in a shootout!  Captain Conner Twentyman (grade 12) had the game winning shootout goal with an amazing "showtime" style goal and Rocco Colosimo (grade 12) played solidly including two shootout saves. Nathan Gignac (grade 12) also had three goals. There are two games left to play at Detroit Skating Club this season, February 5 at 8:15 p.m. and February 12 at 6 p.m.

The season began the first week of January and the team has competed in three meets. The team is led by Captain Ethan Tigay (grade 12) who has earned several top 10 results (out of a field of 72), with support from Jasper Comello (grade 10), Jonah Yaksich (grade 12), and Hudson Panozzo (grade 9), with several top 10 finishes with some as high as fourth overall.  Last weekend, the team won their race against Clarkston, previously undefeated.
