May 2026 Athletic Highlights

Flag Football

The Bloomfield Hills team captured the division championship with a 19-6 victory over Chippewa Valley High School, completing an outstanding regular season and earning a spot in the state tournament at Ford Field.

The Black Hawk defense continued its dominant season. Kennedy Vaughn (grade 11) led the way with six flag pulls, including four tackles for a loss. Hannah Rodner (grade 9) made a strong impact in her first game on defense, recording four flag pulls. Angelina Gieleghem (grade 9) delivered one of the biggest plays of the game with a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown, marking the team’s third pick-six of the season. Liana Le (grade 11) and Julia Esshaki (grade 9) also added interceptions for the Black Hawks.

Offensively, the team made several explosive plays. Julia Finkelstein (grade 9) hauled in a 58-yard touchdown catch, while Milan Thai-Tang (grade 11) broke free for a 38-yard touchdown run and finished with 51 total rushing yards on 3 carries. Blakely Hall (grade 9) added 56 total yards, and Kendyll Parker (grade 11) caught a one-point conversion pass.

With the win, Bloomfield Hills now advances to the 2026 Michigan Girls High School Flag Football State Championship Tournament held at Ford Field! The tournament begins on Saturday, May 30. This event is FREE for anyone who wants to come support the girls and watch the 15 individual league champions compete for a state championship. The team would love to see students, families, staff, alumni, and community members in the stands cheering on our Black Hawks! Please help spread the word to your team, school, community, and anyone who wants to support girls flag football as this incredible sport continues to grow across Michigan.

The “Final Four” teams will also be streamed on Sunday, May 31 at approximately 2 p.m. at www.DetroitLions.com/flag.

Golf

At the Taylor Meadows Golf Club, the varsity team scorched the golf course, carving out a below 300 team score of 297.  With Lucas Dostal (grade 11) and Ethan Tigay (grade 12) shooting one over par 72's closely followed by Ben Berman (grade 12) with a 75 and Arvin Ahari (grade 12) with a 79.  The team came in second, three shots off the pace out of 17 top teams. In the team’s final regular season tournament, they performed exceptionally well, finishing 3rd in a field of approximately 20 teams with a total score of 299. Individual scores included:

  • Ari Raykinstein (grade 10): 72
  • Lucas Dosta (grade 11): 75
  • Owen Otto (grade 12): 75
  • Arvin Ahari (grade 12): 77
  • Ethan Tigay (grade 12): 77

On the JV black team, Gabe Yamima (grade 9) scored a 74 and tied for third place at the Farmington Invitational at Glen Oaks Golf Course. Aiden Kotikovsky (grade 10) scored a 74 and tied for 8th at the Kensington junior tour at Kensington Golf Course. Kotikovsky and Landon Cooney (grade 10) both scored 73 and tied for 5th at the Black Hawk Invitational at Crystal Lake Golf Course. The team placed 4th overall. 

Lacrosse

The varsity boys team made it to the championship in the OAA tournament beating Royal Oak in the semifinal game, but fell short in the final game. They've won the first two playoff games; earning the #2 seed in their region.

The varsity girls team tied for 1st place and won the OAA Red League for the sixth year in a row! The team beat #1 seed Birmingham 19-9 in the 1st round of regionals last week. The team received five All-State awards:

  • Molly Rubel (grade 11) - 1st Team Midfield
  • Brooke Sanders (grade 12) - 1st Team Goalie 
  • Solei Ewing (grade 12) - 2nd Team Attack
  • Juju Socha (grade 9) - 3rd Team Defense
  • Lainey Stewart (grade 12) - Honorable Mention

Soccer

Goal scoring has been led by captain Caroline Reynolds (grade 12) with two goals, also scoring two goals: Blakey Hall (grade 9), Antonetta Ivanaj (grade 10). Molly Hulstrom (grade 11), Isabelle Johnston (grade 11), and Addison Herr (grade 12) have 1 goal each. Milan Thai-Tang (grade 11) led the assists with three, alongside Ivanaj and Johnston with 1 each. 

For the season, Antonetta Ivanaj and Sloane Popov (grade 12) have led the scoreboard with seven goals each, followed by Hall with 5, and Herr, Johnston, and Reynolds, with two each, and Hulstrom with one. Assists for the season have come from Ivanaj with 4, Thai-Tang with three, Herr, Hulstrom, Johnston and Reynolds with two, and Kate Jardine (grade 9) with one.

Our record this season is 8-6-2 as we continue our playoff run. Coach Kayla Shuk said, “These girls are working extremely hard and giving their very best each day. I am so proud of them and the work they have put into this program.” 

Softball

The varsity softball team took part in the “2026 Michigan Challenge” featuring teams from across the state. Led by their strong pitching and defense, they claimed second place in their pool on Saturday. Then the bats came alive, powering the Black Hawks to two wins in the heat, including a last-inning walk-off win against Milford to win the bracket. Talia Ossipove (grade 12) led the way with 11 RBI’s on the weekend, and Avery Howland (grade 12) was strong in the circle with 10 innings pitched and seven strikeouts.

Tennis

The girls varsity tennis team won all eight flights to secure the regional championship! 

  • 1 Singles: Jordyn Tomina (grade 9)
  • 2 Singles: Sophia Tomina (grade 11)
  • 3 Singles: Evelyn Kalaydjian (grade 12)
  • 4 Singles: Alexandra Pascarella (grade 9)
  • 1 Doubles: Ruhi Balaji (grade 10) and Madeline Baker (grade 10)
  • 2 Doubles: Marissa Ammori (grade 11) and Leah Goldstein (grade 12)
  • 3 Doubles: Carissa Hurnevich (grade 11) and Jordyn Goldstein (grade 11)
  • 4 Doubles: Adriana Foumia (grade 11) and Amelia Grace (grade 10)

Next, the team will compete in the MHSAA State Championship beginning on Wednesday, May 27.

Track and Field

From the OAA Red/White Championships to the MHSAA Regional and the Oakland County Championships, the BHHS track and field athletes competed with grit and distinction across a packed May schedule.

Sprints - Phillip Stephens (grade 12) had a tremendous showing at regionals, reaching the finals in both the 100m (6th, 11.31) and 200m (6th, 22.98). Sloane Schiller (grade 12) was a force in the 400m all month, running 58.32 at OAA's and 57.91 at regionals to earn a spot at the State Meet on Saturday, May 30. Madisyn Durfield (grade 10) reached the 200m regional final (7th, 27.08) in a strong finish to the season.

Relays - The boys 4x400 squad capped the OAA Championships with a blazing 3:29.38, a new school record, run by Stephens, Owen Lawrence (grade 10), Jax Scott (grade 11), and Will Washington (grade 9). The boys 4x100 team of Bennett Johnson (grade 10), Miles Willis (grade 9), Will Washington, and Ahmed Wasseem (grade 12) also scored at OAA's with a 45.92. The 4x400 team of Layla Kallivayalil (grade 12), Evelyn Grosshans (grade 11), Olivia Jenney (grade 11), and Schiller ran a strong 4:09 at the Oakland County meet to score 4 points.

Distance - Lawrence turned in a standout performance in the 800m at the OAA Championships, clocking a 1:58.69, a new school record. Colin Hunt (grade 10) continued his development in the 1600m, finishing 10th at OAA's with a personal best 4:32. Jenney opened the 800m scoring with a personal best 2:21 at OAA's. Claire Lawrence (grade 9) had an exceptional stretch of distance racing, running an 11:19 3200m at regionals to qualify for states, then placing 8th at the Oakland County Championships in the 1600m with a personal best 5:13, earning a spot at both the MHSAA State Meet on Saturday, May 30 and New Balance Nationals in June.

Field - Yoanna Mihaylova (grade 9) competed well at the Oakland County Championships in long jump with a 16'2.5" personal best to place 9th.
