September 2026 Athletic Highlights

Cross Country

Runners Olivia Jenney (grade 12), Claire Lawrence (grade 10), Owen Lawrence (grade 11), and Gerry Socha (grade 11) all made it to the podium at the Hanson Invitational on September 26 in Sterling Heights.

Dance

In July, the BHHS Varsity and JV Dance teams attended Universal Dance Association summer camp, a transformative 4-day accelerator to learn extensive dance choreography, master dance technique, participate in team building, and more. The teams received several blue ribbon honors and accomplishments.

In addition to their own ongoing training, the Dance Team program hosted a national collegiate preparatory clinic called OFFSEASON run by Tribe99. Hundreds of dancers from across the state attended the two day accelerated master class training event instructed by current collegiate dancers.

The team kicked off their football season with a Junior Black Hawk Dance Clinic & Halftime show. Participants included over 50 K-8th grade students across the community. At the second football game, the Unified Friendship Club members joined our Varsity dancers on the sidelines during the second quarter.

Equestrian

The 2026 show team is composed of Raegan Bewick (grade 12), Natalie Settecerri (grade 12), Sadie Sloan (grade 11), and Amber Smith (grade 12). This BHHS Equestrian Team began with District meets/shows at the Armada Fairgrounds, competing with 8 other teams from neighboring schools.

The Black Hawks finished 1st in their division and will be advancing to the MIHA Region C Championships, held at Midland County Fairgrounds on October 2-4. They will be up against four other Districts and from there, the top three teams in each division will move forward to the MIHA State Championship.

Not only have these equestrians been competing on the same team for BHHS since middle school, they are in the Oakland County 4-H Horse Program and show various open circuit horse shows together as well. Coach Salisbury commented, “This team has put in the work and hopes to represent BHHS proudly at the Regional and State Championships.”

Flag Football

The Black Hawks Girls Flag Football team earned impressive victories over Troy Athens and Troy High. Against Troy Athens, the team produced nearly 300 yards of total offense, including 96 rushing yards and 202 receiving yards. The defense was equally strong, recording multiple interceptions, a sack, and a safety.

The Black Hawks followed that performance with a dominant 34–0 victory over Troy High. The defense recorded four interceptions, including two by Blakely Hall (grade 10), one by Holiday Lucai-Sample (grade 12), and a pick-six by Melanie Hummon (grade 12). Lucai-Sample also tied the program’s single-game record with seven flag pulls, while nine different players recorded at least one flag pull or pass breakup.

Offensively, Hall and Milan Thai-Tang (grade 12) each scored two touchdowns as the Black Hawks delivered another complete team performance.

On the road Friday, 9/25, the team came home with another OAA victory, defeating the Lake Orion Dragons 18–6 to improve to 3–0 on the season! This was a TEAM win with contributions all over the field.

Coach Ledin commented, “We are extremely proud of the way these young women continue to compete, improve, and represent Bloomfield Hills High School. Go Black Hawks!”

Football

The JV football team is off to a 3-2 start this season. We are coming off a big 28-18 win against West Bloomfield this past week. The team has made a lot of growth over the course of the summer and the first half of the season and Coach Hearit is excited to see where the 2nd half of the season will take them. BHHS will host Troy Athens on Thursday, October 1st at 6:30pm.

The BHHS Varsity football team hosted their purple cancer awareness game on September 25. Purple represents the universal fight against all types of cancer and our players donned purple jerseys, socks, and ribbon decals on their helmets to honor anyone impacted by this disease. The team thanked West Bloomfield football for their support by wearing decals on their helmets as well. All week long, BHHS student leadership and school store programs raised funds to support cancer research at the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids. The game was deeply personal, as each player and coach dedicated this game to a specific loved one.

The honorary captain for the special game was principal Dr. Dan Hartley, who was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia in May. Treatment is going well and he expects to be in full remission in February of 2027. Dr. Hartley thanked the entire Black Hawk community for all of their support during this time.

Girls Golf

The Girls' Varsity Golf team finished in 7th place at the Oakland County Division 2 Championship Tournament on Tuesday, September 15. Team Captain Natalie Bugajewski (grade 11) tied for 4th place, qualifying her for the Division 1 Championship on Wednesday, September 23rd, at Fieldstone Golf Course. Coach Lumsden commented, “Natalie did a great job representing the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawk Girls' Varsity golf team!” The team will play in the regional tournament on Wednesday, October 7th, for a shot at making it to the State Finals.

Girls Swim & Dive

The Girls Swim and Dive team has had five meets so far: Marian Relays (3rd out of 10 teams), lost to Seaholm, beat Stoney Creek, lost a close one to Rochester HS (94-92) and took 2nd out of 6 teams at the Salem Invite.

Kailey Bachman (grade 12) and both of the 200 and 400 Free relay teams have qualified for the Division 1 state meet.

Coach Onisko said, “Many outstanding swims have been turned in so far from all the swimmers and divers. The team continues to work hard and improve daily. We are looking forward to a strong showing at both the upcoming Oakland County and MISCA meets.”

Boys Tennis

The Boys Varsity B Tennis team has been playing strong this season. The team is 7-2-1 in dual meet matches and won a four team tournament. Coach Seacrest said, “With 17 new members out of 28 players, they are all progressing nicely. Our only two losses were to a very strong Seaholm team and in our rematch with them the team improved from being a little overmatched the first time, to playing a highly competitive second match.”

Volleyball

The Bloomfield Hills Varsity Volleyball team is off to another strong start this fall, building on last year’s historic 43-7-1 season and run to the Division 1 State Championship match. The Black Hawks have once again faced a challenging schedule and have already picked up wins over teams including Novi, Dakota, Stoney Creek, Romeo, Oxford, and Lakeland.

Setter Brynn Wilcox (grade 12) reached an incredible milestone this season, recording her 3,000th career assist as a Black Hawk. She continues to fill the stat sheet this fall, including a 26-assist performance in a win over Dakota and 22 assists, six digs and five kills against Marian. Allison Stakoe (grade 11) has emerged as one of the team's primary offensive weapons. Through MaxPreps' early-season statistics, Stakoe led Bloomfield Hills with 102 kills (4.6 per set), a .400 hitting percentage and 21 aces. She recorded 16 kills against Dakota and another 15 kills with nine digs against Oxford. Emily Nwabueze (grade 10) has also continued to develop into a major presence in the middle. After totaling 245 kills and a team-high 70 blocks as a freshman, she opened this season with 59 kills through her first 22 sets recorded by MaxPreps.

Bloomfield Hills also benefits from an experienced group surrounding Wilcox. Alyssa Moir (grade 12) anchors the backcourt after leading the team with 385 digs last season, and she currently leads the Black Hawks in digs per set. Julia Colosimo (grade 12) continues to make an impact as an all-around player and passer, including a 21-dig performance against Lakeland and 12 digs with three aces against Oxford. Charlotte Elowsky (grade 12) has provided production both offensively and defensively, including eight kills and three aces against Lakeland and 18 digs with two aces against Marian. Sasha Shepherd (grade 12) and Lola McMurtrie (grade 12) rounds out a veteran class that has been an important part of the program's success and brings valuable experience to the Black Hawks' backcourt.
