Community Service/Service as Action

Service as Action Requirement

Class of 2025 and beyond are required to complete 4 Service As Action experiences, one for each school year.

Class of 2028 and Families:

Beginning with the Class of 2028, the graduation requirement for community service has been updated. All students will satisfy the requirement through school-sponsored activities and events that are built into the school curriculum. You will no longer need to complete any additional forms or documentation to satisfy the requirement.

However, community service and voluntarism are valuable and meaningful experiences. While the BHHS requirements have been embedded within the school, we highly encourage all students to get involved and give back to their community through service activities and events.

Time for Kids Service Stars

Time For Kids Service Stars

Each month, Service Stars will spotlight kids who are performing acts of service, both big and small, and name a TFK Kid of the Month, profiling an amazing youth who can inspire us all. We’ll also share resources and ideas tied to our Mission of the Month feature, to give all kids the tools they need to make positive changes in their own community.

Are you a young person who might want in on the action, or someone that Service Stars should consider featuring as a Kid of the Month?

Volunteering isn't always Service as Action (Community Service)

If you are ever in doubt about your service, please contact Mrs. Litz in the Counseling Center.

Friendship Circle of Michigan is a non-profit based in the Metro-Detroit area. The goal is to provide every individual with special needs the support, friendship and inclusion that they deserve. Volunteers are paired with a child who has special needs for a 1-2 hour program after-school or Sundays. Together, they form a friendship in one of our weekly programs. Programs include teaching the participants basketball, engaging in arts and crafts and going to fun activities such as miniature putt putt and laser tag.

Share Detroit is a website for nonprofits to list their needs and for volunteers to find where their skill sets and passions align with local organizations. These requested needs can be fulfilled by donations or through volunteering your time.

Check out the volunteer opportunities on the website. Some of the needs include mentoring at Big Brothers, Big Sisters, donating to the Ronald McDonald House, working on environmental policy with Detroit Hives and hockey coaching for the Michigan Warriors Hockey Program.
